With salsa music playing in the background and kale decor in their hair, nutritionists Wendy Lopez and Jess Jones are producing a cooking show that teaches viewers how to eat and shop for healthy, affordable meals. Super healthy and super affordable, as Wendy would say.
“Food Heaven Made Easy with Wendy & Jess” is a monthly cooking/nutrition series that’s available online and on Brooklyn Community Access Television. The show was created by the two nutrition educators as a “creative outlet to help underserved communities in New York City improve their diets and overall health.”
In their first episode, Wendy and Jess take viewers through the entire process of cooking a three-course meal for a family of four for $10. They take viewers through all stages of creating the meal from a trip to the grocery store, to chopping up the veggies and the cooking process.
In the process viewers even get a merengue lesson. And they learn facts about food—like why it’s better to leave the skin on a potato when cooking. “The skin has lots and lots of fiber and fiber is excellent for us because it helps lower our cholesterol, helps keep you regular, it prevents certain types of cancer,” Jess explains to viewers.
Their show is a real act of love that can turn this country’s obesity epidemic around. Episode by episode.
