It’s been a year since the catastrophic BP oil spill decimated parts of the Gulf Coast’s storied fishing history and spread into the record books as the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history. While families are certainly still struggling to put their lives back together, we’re taking a moment to recognize their resilient spirit in spite of seemingly insurmountable odds. In the photo above that was taken earlier this week, people fish in front of the looming spectre of oil rigs in Dauphin Island, Alabama.
