Last Thursday, one day before Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed SB1070 into law, she held a news conference to unveil the Arizona Border Security Plan that she hopes the federal government will fund so the state can deploy of 250 additional National Guard troops to the border. The plan came just in time for “The Border Security Expo & Conference” being held a few blocks away from the state capital building at the Phoenix Convention Center.

Conference organizers said they expect about 1,000 officers from local, state and federal departments to attend, including sheriff’s offices, U.S. Marshals, D.E.A., I.C.E., and the U.S. Border Patrol.

So amidst the SB1070 controversy, deputies who could potentially enforce SB1070 were out checking out the latest assault rifles.
